Susanne at the 2017 Jesolo Sand Nativity
Everyone is very happy to have her on any crew anywhere, as she is talented and loads of fun.
She works hard and is dedicated to her art, but she is also well able to balance it all with plenty of not too serious stuff.
Together with her Russian boyfriend Ilya Filimontsev, - another long-time regular on the crew; and select others who travel constantly for work, they always make the road feel a bit like home anyway, wherever we are.
I've said it numerous times, but it bears repeating, Susanne has an elegant hand and a great creative mind that compliment her well rounded personality including her fun sense of humor, wit and good natured charm.
She perhaps holds the record -or is at least tied, for the most smiling/laughing mien on the SOS crew. (but in complete fairness that is a subjective measure, and two other Dutch carvers are equally as jovial. So it really is difficult to gauge at that high level. They are; Arianne Rosmalen, and Marielle Heessels. Whenever the three are anywhere together, serious laugh riots always ensue)
Here are a few images of Susanne's work for this edition:

|| Susanne is a first-call, core carver
on the team for many years at both summer and winter gigs in Jesolo each
With Ducharme, she is of the more commonly featured artists in the crescendo pieces or spotlighted highlights of our shows.
An elegant hand and a creative mind fight hard for top attributes with her beguiling humor, wit and good natured charm.
She perhaps holds the record for the most smiling/laughing mien on the crew.
Susanne Ruseler - Utrecht, Netherlands.
B. October 14, 1976
In school, Susanne trained as a scientist (biology). But discovered that art (sculpture) in which she is self taught, was a calling more to her liking as an occupation.
Besides sand, she also works with snow, ice , concrete, styrofoam, plastics etc.
She first worked as a pro sand sculptor in Thorn, Netherlands in 2003.
Susanne is a long time carver on the crew...
But I first became aware of her at the North American Sand Sculpting Championships (Virginia Beach) in 2007, and invited her to join the Sultans Of Sand team for the first time to sculpt in the "China & the Olympics" show in Jesolo, in 2008. She instantly became one of my favorite carvers, and has worked with us on both the summer and the winter shows in Jesolo ever since, as well as a couple of promotional spots in Austria, and Rome, for a total of 16 engagements. See more images of her work for us in the Sultans Of Sand archives.
She has won dozens of international awards, and is currently one of the hottest and most sought after carvers on the world sand sculpting tour.

She is a shining star on the team, producing numerous great
works over the years.
She has worked on the crescendo piece in the Nativity show several times
in the past, with various other artists.
