Ilya at the 2017 Jesolo Sand Nativity
Venice, Italy
Ilya is in my opinion, at the very pinnacle of the cadre of working Grand Master sand sculptors around the world. He is classically trained, and incredibly fast. Thus, he is in demand on tour and is technically & proportionately more prolific in his awesome output, than any other sand carver I am aware of. His generous and kind nature finds other sculptors coming to him for tips and advice on a variety of matters ranging from questions of line, form and perspective, to overall compositional structure. Considering his relatively young age -even though he has been at the top of the game for years and has already compiled a massive and utterly impressive body of work; one can only imagine (with wonderment) what the future will bring in terms of his new pieces, years from now. I have assigned Ilya to be the lead designer and carver on the crew that will render the Sand Nativity for the city of Jesolo, which will be presented at Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, in the winter of 2018, right after our 17th edition of the Sand Nativity 2018 in Jesolo. Here are a few images of Ilya's work for this
edition:

Ilya is perhaps one of the hardest
working master sand carvers in the world today, or ever. His raw power which provides for his being able to produce high volume, high quality work is only eclipsed by his incredible talent. Clearly the man is in a league of his own on the entire world sand scene. & By a considerable margin. Ilya will be an integral figure on the design team in the upcoming commission of a Sand Nativity at St. Peters Basilica in the Holy Vatican City, in December 2018. A year and a half hence, from the time of this writing. Ilya's Flicker Page/Web Site: |
