4.) Westerns Sculpted by Vladimir
Kuraev – Russia
The cowboys and Indians in their relentless battles, as well as the
pioneer spirit of the American Old west was all the stuff of stories for
countless movies in the Westerns genre. Many of these films were shot
in Italy in the 1960s and 70s for the geography that closely resembled the
western frontier in America, and because of the less expensive production
costs. These films were called “Spaghetti Westerns” and many featured the
great Clint Eastwood in such classics as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,
and A Fistful of Dollars. John Wayne played many types of characters
in his long career as an actor, but will forever be immortalized in westerns
for such roles as Rooster Cogburn and for the rough and tumble style of many
westerns such as Rio Bravo and True Grit.
Gary Cooper portrayed a more sensitive type of sheriff in a film that
highlighted bravery and fair play and a sense of righteousness against seemingly
overpowering odds that were all too common in the old west, in the classic
western film High Noon.
