8.) Italian Films
Sculpted by Alexie Diakov Russia
While obviously not products of Hollywood, Italian films have had
an influence not unlike that of Hollywood both in America and elsewhere in
the world.
Of all the Oscars given at the Academy Awards for foreign films,
Italy has won the most at 13. Including Oscars for the immortal Sophia Loren
who won Best Actress for her role in Two Women, and Roberto Beligni for best
actor in Life is Beautiful. That film also won Best Foreign Film in 1998,
as did Mediterraneo in 1991, and Cinema Peridiso in 1989
Fellini Roma, La Strada, Nights of Cabiria, La Dolce Vita, Marriage
Italian Style, Divorce Italian Style, and 8 &1/2
are all Italian Classics.
Fellini is arguably the most influential and important foreign film
director of his time.
A true icon of Italian Actors, Marcello Mastroianni made over 120
films. Most notably as a charming Latin Lover. Fellini once said Mastroianni
was his (Fellini’s) alter ego.
Mastoianni was one of Fellini’s favorite actors. He
also teamed up with Sophia Loren twelve times for an endearing big screen
partnership including Marriage Italian Style, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,
and Ready to Wear. |
