The Overall Concept.
To provide high quality sand sculpture art to the local residents of Jesolo at a time of year considered off peak, or the slow season. Being that occurs around the holiday season anyway, the story of the Nativity was a natural selection for the theme of the sand art show.
The operation and implementation of the second edition of the Nativity show was designed primarily to emulate the very great success of the first edition, but at almost twice the size and scope. Whereas in the first edition 2002-03, three artists created five sculptures, this year six artists are creating seven sculptures. The biggest difference is the expanded size of the tent, and nearly twice the amount of custom sand, according larger sculptures to be on display.
To keep up with the high level of quality the producers strive to achieve, the director has hired some of the best Master sand sculptors working today all over the world. He assigned each artist a design that the sculptors had to interpret individually for the display. Sometimes the designs need altering slightly as the course of the work develops for various reasons.
The clear plastic tent that houses the entire show consumes the whole city square at Piazza Marconi now. The floor plan (sculpture layout) is as shown below:
As usual, there will be a raised and carpeted floor, adequate for wheelchairs and baby strollers. A dynamic lighting scheme and sound system, lots of plants and holiday decor, a merchandise outlet and the ever popular photographic exhibition of how the event is put together.
