INTERNATIONAL SAND SCULPTURE FESTIVAL
TOTTORI,
JAPAN 2009
This project is a gated admission sand sculpture festival produced
by Tottori City, Japan and directed by Katsuhiko Chaen of Kagoshima, Japan.
The show features an exhibition and a competition sculpted by 14 international
master sand carvers. The show also features lots of vendors, other entertainment
and a light/sound show.
The sand preparation was from March 12 to 28. Sand Sculpting from March
30 to April 14 (the three exhibition carvers work five days longer than the
ten day competition carvers). The show opens to the public April 18,
2009 and remains open for 44 days. Admission is $13.00

Biography for Damon Farmer
Damon Farmer is from Kentucky, U.S.A. He began sculpting sand
as a hobby in 1975 and has been a professional sculptor since 1990.
He now travels to China, Puerto Rico, Canada, Spain, Mexico, France and
many U.S.A. locations to create sand displays or participate in international
competitions. Images of his sand sculptures have been featured on
international television, in newspaper and magazine articles, calendars
and postcards. He is a World Solo Champion and has also won the North
American Solo title as well as numerous other contests. This
is Damon's sixth participation in the Presepe Di Sabbia. He also visits
Jesolo every June to help create the annual Sculture Di Sabbia. He
works in other art mediums between sculpting trips, including painting, computer
graphics and theater set designs.
