Baldrick at the 2017 Jesolo Sand Nativity
Baldrick is all over the place in art, figuratively as well as literally. From conceptual to conversational, he can do it all. His involvement with the group harks back to some of the earliest days we have performed in Italy, but after those initial years he had been unavailable for a while, due to his own commissions requiring more of his attention. But for a number of years now he has been back on the team roster as a staple of both the summer and winter shows.
His particular style and great compositional skill always results in striking, often dramatic or emotional pieces.
His most recent piece for the SOS group before his showing here at the 17th annual Jesolo Sand Nativity, was at last summer's show in Jesolo, where he rendered the Beatles as Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. Images of that composition were shared on social media and otherwise around the world, more times than any other image of any of our works.
Below are a few images of Baldrick's work for this edition:

His 2017 Sgt. Peppers tribute is as popular on social media as any we've had before.
"My name is Baldrick. I originate from the UK but have been based in Amsterdam for the last 23 years.
I made my first sand sculpture on a Dutch beach with my friend in 1996 and it was not long before we had both quit our commitments and started our sand sculpture company Sandaholics Anonymous.
Shortly after we began our company I received my first invitation to sculpt in Jesolo. I have been lucky enough to have worked here many times since then and have seen how this wonderful event has evolved over the years.
Although sand sculpture still remains my main source of income I have worked in many other materials including ice and snow, brick, cheese (yes cheese) and chocolate.
In 2002 I took 5 years out of the sand world and studied fine art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. I still work in my studio when I'm not sculpting sand which is not very often these days.
I look forward to many more years visiting and sculpting sand in Jesolo."
