FINI! It was, all in all, a fine event. Look to Jesolo to produce an even bigger and better event next year.

"It was good. The crowds were the biggest yet, and it is great publicity for the city of Jesolo."
Francesco Calzavara - Producer: Sand Castles

 ...And the winners are:

 Jury results:

    First Place: $1,000.00
      Niels Vegter. Holland
      "Machine"
Niels perseveres, and determinedly completes what he has intended. "Machine". A very clean,
      almost strikingly stark sculpture.

   Second Place: $750.00
      Damon Farmer. USA
      "Cowboys"
Damon had "Cowboys" pretty well whipped into shape and then one of them slipped almost two
feet, but much of the element remained intact, so he just changed the pose. Being on the end
directly facing the wind, he suffered more wind erosion than anyone else.

  Third Place: $500.00
      John Gowdy. USA
      "Pilgrim Pope"
John also has a piece that the Italians love. "The Pilgrim Pope" This piece was done in the round.

 Sculptors Choice Award:
      Two-way tie
Damon Farmer "Cowboys" and Niels Vegter "Machine"

 Peoples Choice Award (11.500 votes):
      First Place:
: Alessandro Buonopane, Italy "The Kings Castle"
Alessandro has arguably the least experience, and yet in the end, produces the tallest sculpture,
and also the one that pushes the sticking power of the sand the most. " The Kings Castle"
      Congratulations Alessandro- Good job!

     Second Place:
Damon Farmer "Cowboys"

     Third Place:
John Gowdy " The Pilgrim Pope"

    "Virtual Peoples Choice" award:
      First: Damon Farmer (USA)
      Second: Alessandro Buonopane (Italy)
      Third: Marika Tormikoski (Finland)

THE AWARD WINNERS

Left to right:        Damon, Alessandro, Niels, John

The wind was quite strong on Sunday for the amateur division and the
awards presentation, but that could not keep the crowds away.
As the spectators watched, the amateurs went at it "trowel and spade" a
dozen teams vied for the prizes. First place being a family trip to
EuroDisney (first: Maltagliati Susanna - Milano). The Ams were judged by
 the pros.

Look for us next year in the 4th Edition: CDM 2001
