the 4th Edition
Castelli Di Mare
Free workshops

This aspect featured free, hands-on workshop/lessons to the general public. Each morning for three days in advance of the children's contest. It was a basic entry level understanding of why sand sticks (or why it does not).  And the rudiments of stacking the wet sand to make solid foundations for various designs. As well as some very basic carving techniques to create a castle tower, or a light house or animal shapes and human figures.
The Classes were three per day on June 14, 15 and 16. Presented by Rich Varano and Bill dow, and translated by Lorena Mucelli and "Philippo the wonder kid".

Just away from the display site, (In the background) by the waters edge, the workshops drew over three hundred attendees. Both young and old alike enjoyed the "hands-on" involvement.

Here you can see how they learn a basic technique for stacking the wet sand. (Left) which can be easily shaped and carved into a castle tower.

Rich Varano (yellow shirt on left) with the help of the interpreter Phillipo (yellow shirt on right with bull horn) Gives personalized instruction after each group workshop, to ensure the simple basics of why sand sticks and how to model basic foundation shapes is well understood.
It is simple, good clean fun. The workshops are free and open to all ages. It's very well suited for the whole family to enjoy together.
With the basic understanding and a little time and patience, great sculptures can be made in just a short time.

In addition to the open workshops, and with a vance notice, we can also ac ommodate special orders such as working with an entire class from a school nearby, out for a field trip.
Workshop facilitators Bill Dow and Rich Varano pose by the AIW exhibit, with a class of second graders after the morning "Lessons"
