Searching for Livingston
By Rich Varano
At the Sand Museum in Tottori Japan, 2010 (On display from May 2010 until
January 2011)
Show theme: "AFRICA"
Director: Katsuhiko Chaen
My piece was the "Nile River" scene,
prominently featured in the center pit of the main tent. There was another
sculpture "Victoria Falls" that was the source of flowing water at the base,
which ran as a stream and cascaded down into my pit. The sculpture you see
here is sitting in real water.
Specs:
About 15 tons
7 meters long
The figures are about 3x life size, including the crocodiles behind
the dugout canoe.
The entire show is about 1100 tons and is situated in three main tents at
the sand museum sculpture garden at the Sand Dune Park, in Tottori Japan
(Near Osaka)
In total, eight international masters created
all the art scenes. The show will be on display from May 2010 through January
2011
