of Masaryk, The Czech Republic Granted it is my opinion, but quite simply, Radek is one of the very best sand carvers in the world today, period. Many other people obviously think so too, because he is sought after by all the major sand events. He also does well in the competitions he chooses to go to. Even though I sense that he, like me, is not a huge fan of competition in such subjective realms. Yet he always gives his all, even at events like the ones here in Jesolo now, that are only exhibitions, and not competitions. Which is a another reason he will always be invited back. He paints and sculpts a lot. He is fairly kinetic, in general, energetically speaking. Radek is rather deliberate in how he picks and chooses whereto go to do his work so that he can split his non-touring time as he prefers, between his homeland of the Czech Republic, and the hills of Portugal where he now lives. Radek is also possessed of a seemingly healthy dose of that "free sprit" quality. He is well grounded yes, -responsible, wise & fair, and certainly quite professional. But he is so quick to laugh & always ready to have fun. He easily sees the simple beauty in everyday things that surround us, too. In short, he has a really great attitude. He's almost like an innocent child in his zest for life, yet obviously a serious adult who can also go with the flow everywhere, all the time. For example, at an event earlier this year down at the very southern tip of Honshu Island in Japan, after we worked at a great sand event for ten days, Radek had planned for a few days off afterwards, before flying home. Just so he could walk along the coast of the East China Sea. To simply see what he could see, armed with nothing but a backpack and a curious attitude. He reports it was a blast. Czech out a lot of really great work at his website: www.artareia.cz |
