JESOLO
SCULTURE DI SABBIA IX - VISIONS
OF AFRICA Masai
Lion Hunt
by Pavel Zadanyuk. Moscow,
Russia
One of the event special
guests this year was Pavel's sister Irina. She is an Olympic
cross country skier and a charming -if soft spoken, and a decidedly
lovely young woman, who can also toss a mean Bocci ball. Everyone was
delighted that Pavel brought Irina along, and we hope she will return.
"Hey Richie-Richie
Lookie me! I'm So good I do it with my eyes
closed!" The Great Pavelino! The lives of
the Masai centres around cattle herding. They believe
God
entrusted the cattle to the Masai people, and wealth is measured in
number of
cattle. Lions kill many cattle, and so, the Masai, hunt the lions.
Traditionally they have used only spears and other hand weapons, and so
it was
a very dangerous thing, and men die in the process.[ BACK
