Probably one of
the most widely recognized elements of Africa in popular literature and
films
worldwide is the fantasy story of Tarzan
<>>Created by
Edgar
Rice Burroughs in 1912, Tarzan was an English Lord who was shipwrecked
and
marooned in Africa as a young boy, and subsequently adopted by apes and
later
grew to be their leader
<>Since the
original publication of the story in 1912 and the additional titles in
the series
through 1927, the theme has been adapted and changed many times,
especially in
film. Here, in sand, the artist again exercises his own artistic
license by
rendering Tarzan in the act of rescuing Jane Porter from a giant snake.
A scene
that was never depicted in the original story, and yet still makes for
fascinating entertainment.>
